Hey there Guys. Today I read in the online news an article that foods commonly thought of as “healthy” may indeed be the opposite. While I don’t agree with the whole article their discussion on the dubious health benefits of fruit juice are true.
a recent article in the Journal Of Human Nutrition And Dietetics evaluated the nutrient density of apple juice as similar to that of fruit squash. On the plus side, apple juice doesn’t play havoc with your blood sugar levels and does contain flavonoids that are part of our armoury against heart disease. But overall, compared with many other fruits and juices, it packs much less of a health punch.
Probably the biggest issue I have with fruit juice is that it has a very high level of sugar and is very easy to rapidly consume. This leads to rapid spikes of blood sugar that can increase glucose intolerance and play havoc with your sugars if you are diabetic. Because of its liquid form you also miss out on all the fiber and additional vitamins you would get from eating the whole fruit.

If you are looking for a healthy alternative to drinking fruit juice the answer is very simple. Just eat the whole fruit instead. This way you get all the fiber, pectins, vitamins and minerals, all neatly packaged in a biodegradable carry container.
While occasional fruit juice is ok, eating the whole fruit is much better.
Yours in great health.
