An interesting study has discovered that Viagra, a tablet for erectile dysfunction, has some interesting additional benefits for men wishing to reduce their body fat.
Researchers from the University of Bonn treated mice with Viagra and made an amazing discovery: The drug converts undesirable white fat cells and could thus potentially melt the unwelcome “spare tire” around the midriff. In addition, the substance also decreases the risk of other complications caused by obesity.
Human’s carry two different forms of body fat, white and brown. White fat is the main fat we find throughout the body. It’s used as a storage depot for energy. Excess white fat is frequently deposited in the belly of men and has been associated with increased risk of heat attack and stroke.
Brown fat is interesting as it is a very active tissue. It is able to burn white fat to help heat the body when it’s cold. The more brown fat present in the body the easier it is to burn white fat.
The new study has found that Viagra helps transform white fat into brown fat. With more brown fat in the body there is increased burning of white fat, in particular around the belly where men tend to store fat.
Viagra has also been discovered to decrease inflammation markers expressed by white fat cells. The hormones released by white fat have been associated with inflammation that contributes towards heat attacks, strokes, diabetes and even cancer.
Research is still in very early phases however the results are promising and may lead to future treatments for obesity and it’s complications.
In time “the little blue pill” may be more then just for difficulty with erections.
Yours in good health.
