Hey Team, a quick review of the Soomlab Air Queen mask. This is an excellent face mask option protecting against the spread of the Coronavirus and COVID-19. It is FDA approved, comfortable and filters at a higher capacity when tested against a high grade N95 face mask. Unlike the standard disposable, single use face masks, the Air Queen can be reused up to 10 times. This reduces waste and is a big saving on masks.
Soomlab is a Korean manufacturer of surgical grade face masks. The Air Queen is their top of the line, FDA approved surgical mask.

In my review of the Soomlab Nano Mask I found the nano mask was a little too tight on the tip of my nose. While very suitable for people with a flatter nose, I needed more space to fit my nose. The Air Queen mask fits significantly better.
The design has 2 flaps that create rounded shape that fits my nose and chin comfortably. I don’t feel pressure on my nose and the seal is way better.
Air Queen Masks: FDA Approved Surgical Safety
I work as a doctor and need to feel confident that my mask is safe. The Airqueen mask is an FDA approved surgical device. Independant testing demonstrates it filters at level higher than the top of the line N95 mask. This means it filters out more than 95% of particles and droplettes that may be floating in the air.
Coronavirus spreads via air dropletts. The Air Queen masks filters more than 95% reducing the risk of infection. Air breathed out is also filtered. This protects people around you if you were to become infected.
What are the differences between the Air Queen and Nano masks?
As noted in the video the main differences between the Air Queen and Nano masks is the shape. Air Queen is better suited to an “anglo” face while the Nano mask is a fit better suited to Asian face shapes. For people with larger noses I recommend the Airqueen, if you have a flatter nose bridge than the Nano may be a better choice for you.
Both masks have N95 quality filtration and the ability to sanistise and reuse up to 10 times.
How to Sanitise the Nanofiber Masks
This can only be done with SoomLab Air Queen and Nano masks.
Different to other disposible masks, the Airqueen can be cleaned and reused Spraying with isoproply alcohol cleans the mask and it can be reworn 10 times. Unlike melt blown masks, SoomLab nanofiber masks can be safely sanitised with alcohol. Cleaning does not grealy impact the masks filtration. Less medical waste and a 10 fold saving. 3 masks can last up to a month!
- To sanitise your mask you will need 75% concentrated ethanol or isopropyl alcohol
- You can spray the surfaces of the mask with the 75% alcohol and hang to dry (mask must be fully dry before wearing again)
- You can also soak the mask in the alcohol solution and then hang to dry
- Unlike other face masks this does not reduce it’s ability to filter air. The mask can be sanitised and reused up to 10 time.

How long do you soak the Air Queen Mask in alcohol?
George Forgan-Smith says
With this study you can soak for 5 min up to 24h
Most importantly is the mask air drys completely before used again.
I choose to spray the front and back of mine with the 75% isopropyl alcohol as it means I use less alcohol and they dry faster.
This is the study that talks about the spray vs soak times.

Can i use 70% alcohol to sanitize?
George Forgan-Smith says
Yes. 70 is perfect. Ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Just be aware hand sanitiser sometimes has extra stuff added (hydrogen peroxide & glycerine) so it’s best not to use these but will work at a pinch but the extra stuff may accumulate on the mask.

Hi George,
Thanks for such a great review of the Soomlab masks!
I am also a fellow healthcare professional here in Melbourne, and I am wondering if you wear the Air Queen mask for the whole day while you are at work seeing patients? And do you re-use the same mask for a week thereafter?
Thanks, and I can’t wait to receive my order of the masks!
George Forgan-Smith says
Yes I love them!! At work the only time I am not wearing my mask is when I am in my room with the door closed by myself. Otherwise it’s mask on… When I see patients I have also added a face shield on recent advice.
