Hey there Guys,
Today I discovered a fantastic “It Gets Better” video over @ my mate, Mike Enders’ blog
The Accidental Bear.
Just in case you have never heard of the “It Gets Better” project it is a fantastic initiative created by Dan Savage in a response to the suicide of a gay teen bullied to the point that suicide was seen as the only option. To quote from the It Gets Better website:
In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry to inspire hope for young people facing harassment. In response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, they wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better.
In less then one year more then 25,000 videos have been created, each sharing their own It Gets Better story. I’m sure that even Dan Savage was surprised at how quickly people responded to the opportunity to reach out and share positive thoughts for gay teen would wide.
For me the videos are inspiring. Each video is a document created from the heart, showing the incredible strength the producer has gone through in their journey from gay teen to adult. Some videos are sad, some have made me incredibly angry, each make me proud. The fact that more then 25,000 people have taken the time out to create their own It Gets Better message inspires me with the support available for the gay teen community today. I am sure that Dan Savage is proud and perhaps even overwhelmed at the landslide success of this thought and tear provoking project.
Today I wanted to share some of my favorite It Gets Better Videos and perhaps to prompt you to consider making your own contribution that may help a gay teen in crisis.
My most recent find is from the blokes @ The San Francisco Spikes. Now I am 100% not sporty but I love these guys!
ASLBear has created this wonderful video that really did share from the heart his experience as a gay teen.
Sharing from my fellow Aussie blogger Ty Curious:
Inspiring! Dan Savage, thankyou for your contribution to supporting us.
