Hey there Guys. Today I found an interesting post at ABC.com of how a 21 year old woman’s garbled text message alerted her husband and doctors that it may be a symptom of stroke.
Smartphone autocorrect is famous for scrambling messages into unintelligible gibberish but when one man received this garbled text from his 11-week-pregnant wife, it alarmed him:
“every where thinging days nighing,” her text read. “Some is where!”
Though that may sound like every text you’ve ever received, the woman’s husband knew her autocorrect was turned off. Fearing some medical issue, he made sure his 25-year-old wife went immediately to the emergency room.
When she arrived to the hospital it was noted that she also had other significant symptom of stroke:
[unordered_list style=”green-dot”]- Disorientation
- Inability to use her right hand or leg
- Difficulty speaking
After x-rays she was quickly diagnosed with a stroke and was able to be treated.
For me this article highlights how technology has really changed the face of medicine with inability to create a text, despite the best efforts of phone autocorrect features, as a new sign of a medical emergency.
Of course it’s important to remember the most common symptoms of a stroke:
Can You Identify A Symptom Of Stroke?
[unordered_list style=”tick”]
- inability to speak properly or speaking gibberish
- facial asymmetry or inability to smile or show teeth
- loss of motor function in arms or legs
- and now: inability to express language via text message or other means
Remember any item from the list above can be a symptom of stroke, it’s important to get your friend or family member to medical care immediately. Every second counts. Yours in great health.
