Hey there Guys,
If you were in an accident and were not able to speak, would anyone be able to contact your loved ones?
This was the exact dilemma that occurred with the terrorist bombings in London in 2005. Dozens of people had been hurt, some had identification; many didn’t. What London paramedic Bob Brotchie did note was that almost everyone had a mobile phone.
As quoted @ Health Central:
“I was reflecting on some of the calls I’ve attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we’d know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history.”
It was Brotchie’s brain child to flag key contacts in your phone with the prefix ICE “In case of emergency” as people you want to be called if you are in need of help.
This is a great start however with today’s modern phones holding many peoples confidential information most people have locks on their phone. This would stop rescue crew from being able to access your contacts.
So how do we ensure that we can get help if needed and maintain our privacy if our phone is lost or stolen?
Put this vital information onto the screen saver of your phone!
This way, if ever needed, essential phone numbers are there front and center for emergency crew to access without having to know the unlock code for your phone. If you have allergies or medical conditions you may want to consider putting this in as well.
So how is this done? As with many things in life, there are two ways to do this.
If you are looking for a quick and simple solution and you have an iPhone, I suggest you download the app Close Call. Close Call is free and will allow you to display an ICE phone number and a 32 character message as part of your screen saver. Quick and simple. Click the image below to be taken to it.
For the Android fans there is a number of apps available. Click the image below to be taken to the latest ICE apps.
If you would like a bit more flexibility, want to have more then 32 characters and you know your way around photo editing software, you can make a screen like this very simply.
If you are not quite sure where to start, below is a video I have created to guide you along. You don’t need any fancy software, just a connection to the internet.

So there you go guys, get busy. This simple ten minute task could very well save your life.
Yours in good health.
