Man’s Life Saved After Male Breast Cancer Scare

December 31, 2012 by George Forgan-Smith 1 Comment

Hey there Guys, I have just been alerted to an article on how House Husbands star Dan Thomas had been diagnosed and treated with male breast cancer just before Christmas.

HOUSE Husbands star and east cancer campaigner Julia Morris’s husband Dan Thomas has undergone a mastectomy to treat the disease.

The diagnosis – rare in men – came just four days before Christmas, with the actress saying early detection saved his life.

Today I thought it was important to highlight that male breast cancer while rare, does happen. For this reason it’s important to check yourself on a regular basis.

How does breast cancer show in men? As noted on the Cancer Australia’s Male Breast Cancer page:

The most common symptom of breast cancer in men is a painless lump in the breast close to the nipple.

Other possible symptoms include:

  • a discharge from the nipple
  • a change in the shape or appearance of the nipple
  • a change in the shape or appearance of the breast, such as swelling or dimpling pain
  • swollen lymph nodes (glands) under the arm.

It is important to see a doctor as soon as possible if you notice any new or unusual breast changes. If the changes are due to cancer, finding it early will mean a better chance of effective treatment.

Guys it’s important to be aware that early detection and treatment of male breast cancer can save your life.

Get in the shower, soap up and get a feel and understanding of your chest and nipples. If you notice a change or lumps see your doctor immediately!

Actually while you are in the shower, don’t forget to check your testicles!

Yours in good health.

Dr George
